Hair Loss Awareness 101 – Hats

1. True or False? Wearing a hat causes thinning hair.

False: Simply wearing a hat does not cause hair loss.

Nearly two out of every three men will begin balding by the time they’re 60, and while there’s no cure for a shiny scalp, there are a lot of supposed causes that men worry about more than they need to. Common causes of hair loss include illness, traction, and genetics. While hat wearing is not a known cause of hair loss, excessively wearing a dirty hat could potentially cause a scalp infection, which in turn may accelerate hair loss, so make sure your hat is always kept clean. If you’re wearing a hat to conceal your hair loss, it’s ok, you’re not making matters worse.
